What Do You Want to Happen in 20 years?

November 20, 2022

I’ve been thinking about the future of my journey lately.

Luckily for me I know I want it to be own business and a tech startup, but what kind? What do I do with my existing projects?

I know that perfect doesn’t exist, but thinking things through is always worth it.

The interesting part is a few friends of mine are going through the same thing.

They’re asking themselves “What is my path”.

When I look at the people I admire they always seem to just “know” their path…but did they really?

Or did they just take the path that was most interesting to them at the time?

The AI said: I think the answer is a bit of both.

I’m not sure what my path is, but I do know that I want to continue building things that people love.

I also know that I want to work on something that has the potential to change the world. ______

The heroes I see seem to always trust the process…me on the other hand, what I’ve learned is I’m not end oriented enough.

If you can visualize the end, finding the path and creating markers to determine if you’re making progress become easier. Things become a lot clearer.

For now, I’m going to keep building things to see where the journey takes me, but how do you choose what to prioritize?

Here’s what AI Wrote for me: I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I think the answer is to just keep building things that you’re passionate about.

The things that make you want to jump out of bed in the morning.

The things that make you stay up all night thinking about.

Those are the things that matter. ____________

The thing is I don’t fully agree with this, but there is some truth to it. If your mind keeps going somewhere you probably are passionate about it, it’s one of the easiest ways to find a “passion”. Alas passion is fleeting.

To create anything of true quality is to also mix discipline in, even on the days when you feel low it’s to follow the path you committed to. I don’t think it’s real to “jump out of bed” every morning. Life is fickle and people are a lot more sensitive than they pretend to be.

The other question is though…what do you want to have happen as a result of this project/life going forward? 20 years from now what do you want your world to look like? You might not be able to control it, but you’ll have nudged it in a direction. What do I want?

The AI Wrote:

I want to work on something that has the potential to change the world.

That’s true…I’m getting to a new place in my life where I can see…when you have the ability to manage, sell, code (definitely need to work here more), network and dream money chases you.

So I guess the question is what potential change do I want to see?

I’ve always loved connecting with people, they make the world go round after all.

My project halfway point…is a fun idea that encapsulates this.

The other thing my partner and I are working on testing is a recruiting startup idea. The Job tech world has a lot of money, helps people and is something I’m excited to advance, so it meets my passions.

Lastly, there’s my bread and butter…my marketing agency that helps other business owners succeed and as always helps enhance the career paths of our team giving them others to help.

My mentor told me to write out what I want to have happen in the next 20, 10, 5 and 1 year. I guess the simple next step is to look at where the world is trending to make sure those goals come true…

If I take the above business visions plus a timeline I created we get a much clearer version of how I can structure my journey. Feel free to laugh at my huge goals, I’m used to people laughing and things are more fun when they’re funny anyways:

20 year goal:

Money: I own a profitable tech company with at least 11 figures in net profit with a mission I’m passionate about.

I also own AT LEAST 11 - 2 million dollar plus small businesses, which each to have an operations manager running them that pay me quarterly distributions and are all profitable with 0 debt. Drawing at least 1 million in personal income for me per year. I have a net worth of at least a few billion dollars.

Personal - I have a family with 2 to 3 kids and am happily married.

Hobby: I make music for fun on the weekends and in my spare time, which hopefully motivates people (no worries if it doesn’t) as well as record comedic content.

I give back to help other business owners on the weekends and connect them to resources 1 hour every weekend at least.

I am on the board of a non-profit for Parkinson’s (my grandfather had it) or at minimum volunteer to help a foundation 2 hours per month at minimum.

I also spend at least 2 hours per month helping people get out of poverty or homelessness.

Every week I spend 4 hours on a family day. I spend 10 hours a week with my wife.

The rest of my time is spent working.

10 year goal: I have a family with 2 kids and am married.

I own a profitable tech product company with at least 9 figures in net profit.

I also own 4 - 7 figure small businesses that do at least 1 million in revenue each, which each have an operations manager running them that pay me quarterly distributions and are all profitable with 0 debt. Drawing at least 1 million in personal income for me per year.

My net worth is at least 50 million dollars.

5 year goal: I own a profitable tech product company with at least 7 figures in net profit.

My net worth is: at least 1.5 million dollars

Personal life: I’m married.

I am scaling a profitable tech product company with at least 5 figures in net profit per month

I own at least 3 - 7 figure small businesses, which each have an operations manager running them that pay me quarterly distributions and are all profitable with 0 debt. Drawing at least 300,000 in personal income for me per year. Net worth is 3 million

1 year goal: My net worth is 300k (this includes Logic Inbound equity)

I’m in a serious relationship with my girlfriend with a high chance of being married.

I have found and validated a tech product company I want to run that can get to at least 4 figures in net profit per month and hit my goal.

I own at least 2 - 7 figure small businesses, which each have an operations manager running them that pay me quarterly distributions and are all profitable with 0 debt. Drawing at least 100k in personal income for me per year.

For fun I: Exercise Perform Comedy Make Music Give advice Watch TV shows Code Listen to Audible while going on a walk

Health - every day I work out 30 minutes at minimum going on a walk and count my calories. *Note this habit has been built already and I’ve lost 50 pounds thanks to it.

At face value my main goal is to “make a TON of money”…however why?….is it worth it in the end? Hmmm Well if you have money you can influence the world, its a simple measure of someones potential impact. So I think it is worth it.

In retrospect though when I’m looking back will making a ton of money fulfill me personally even? I know it can help the world.

The AI Said: I think the answer is no, but using that money to influence the world in a way that I want…now that’s a resounding yes. __

And I agree!

Personal problems I can solve through following Stoicism a philosophy I’ve grown closer and closer to over the years although I practice my own form.

In fact a while back my partners and I looked into creating a “funding Stoicism” company.

You can kill a man, but you can’t kill an idea and him striving on the journey. Ideally we create a more virtuous world through our business philosophy.

A mentor of mine says “virtue” doesn’t exist in nature…but in the next 20 years no doubt do I want virtue to gain in strength…I’ve always admired the Confucius era, but perhaps I’m too idealistic.

Regardless in the next 20 years I’ll strive my best to hit my financial goals I created above owning and starting businesses, mentoring others and creating systems, processes and a network to make tomorrow more promising than today.

Lastly no matter what I’ll still practice being healthy - both physically and mentally. - I’m going to create daily habits for that, as well as keeping up with having great relationships, which will fulfill me.

We will see where destiny lands me, but using this blog post to clarify my plan definitely helps.

No doubt do I have a few more things to clarify for my 20 year vision including skills I need to gain, types of people I’ll need to meet and world trends.

So now it’s my turn to ask…what do you want to happen in 20 years?

Cheers
